About the asset

The route crosses 420 km of gravel plain, twelve wadis that carry flash floods for a handful of days each year, and two areas with protected habitat. The first alignment was 26 km shorter and was abandoned: it clipped the corner of a gazelle range, and rerouting cost less than the mitigation would have.

Construction ran through 2019 and 2020, including the eight months in which pandemic restrictions capped camp occupancy at 60%. The schedule held because the spread was resequenced to run three shorter fronts with independent camps rather than one continuous front.

The line has operated since November 2021 without a reportable release. Computational pipeline monitoring compares metered flow against a hydraulic model in real time and will call a leak down to 0.6% of throughput; the wadi crossings are inspected after every significant flow event.

Scope of work

  • Route selection, geotechnical survey and land access negotiation
  • Line pipe supply, automated welding and hydrostatic testing
  • Three pump stations with variable-speed drives
  • SCADA, surge analysis and computational pipeline monitoring
  • Twelve wadi crossings and two protected-habitat diversions
  • Terminal tie-in, custody metering and full route reinstatement
