Two additional 780,000-barrel crude tanks, a second loading berth and a vapour recovery unit, doubling the terminal's throughput and cutting loading emissions by 96%.
At a glance
The terminal was built for one berth and 2.5 million barrels of storage, and it has run at the limit of both since 2022 — tankers waited, and inland production was occasionally choked back to match the loading window rather than the other way round.
The expansion adds two 780,000-barrel floating-roof tanks and a second berth capable of taking Suezmax vessels at 8,000 cubic metres an hour. A vapour recovery unit serving both berths and the tank farm captures 96% of the hydrocarbon vapour displaced during loading, which was the terminal's single largest emissions source.
Marine work is sequenced around the summer swell season and the turtle nesting window on the adjacent beach, both of which were fixed constraints in the schedule from the first day of planning rather than accommodations made later.
